Set in the former house of renown Flemish writer and poet Christine D’haen (1923 - 2009), ‘A moment in time’ is born in a context of transformation. A house, which history seems like embedded in its walls, will soon be given another breath of life.
All her life Christine D'haen was obsessed with the notion of time, convinced that – through her poetry – she could immortalize a moment. Today we focus on that moment. On the tangible past, the future that is ahead of us and especially on the 'now'. What memories do we carry with us? Which dreams and desires? And eventually, what's left?
The artworks in this exhibition capture a moment. They show traces of nostalgia, forgotten histories or marks that just don't seem to varnish. They illustrate how the feeling of time passing can affect our psyche and make us want to capture certain elements of our lives in order to remember them, to eternalise them.
Wandering through the rooms, we’re hoping this exhibition will make you think about what continues to exist in an increasingly online world. What is left behind when a new layer is applied?
